The Haywood Street Fresco took approximately one and one-half years to complete, from January 2018 to September 2019. This beautiful book, with photographs by Warner Photography, documents the masterful creation and the people behind it.

In 2011, artist Christopher Holt approached Haywood Street Congregation proposing the creation of a buon fresco in the sanctuary. Fresco is an ancient art that involves painting ground pigments onto wet plaster; it is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and requires the specialized skill and talent of trained artists, as well as the help and means of many others in the community. The church’s founding pastor, Rev. Brian Combs, embraced the idea, and the project moved forward over many obstacles. It was completed in September of 2019.

All proceeds from the Fresco Book go directly to Haywood Street and its core programs.
